How is kohl made

Kohl, also known as kajal or surma, is a traditional cosmetic product that has been used for centuries for enhancing the beauty of the eyes. It is typically used to line the waterline and create a defined and dramatic look. While kohl is widely available in the market, you can also make it at home using natural ingredients. Here’s how to make kohl:

Ingredients:

Raw almond oil or coconut oil

A small piece of clean muslin cloth or a fine sieve

A small ceramic or metal plate

Lamp or candle flame

Instructions:

Start by lighting a lamp or a candle flame. You will need a consistent and steady flame throughout the process.

Take a small ceramic or metal plate and place it above the flame. The plate should be able to withstand the heat without getting damaged.

Take a small amount of raw almond oil or coconut oil and pour it onto the plate. The oil will act as a base for the kohl.

Hold the muslin cloth or fine sieve above the plate, allowing the oil to pass through the cloth and collect in a clean container placed beneath it. This process will help filter the oil and remove any impurities.

Once you have collected the filtered oil, place it back on the plate above the flame. Allow the oil to heat up and slightly thicken. Be careful not to overheat it, as it may burn or evaporate.

After heating the oil for a few minutes, remove it from the flame and let it cool down.

Once the oil has cooled, it will have thickened to a paste-like consistency. This paste is your homemade kohl.

Use a clean and small spatula or a toothpick to transfer the kohl paste into a small container or a small empty kohl stick.

Your homemade kohl is now ready to use. Apply it to the waterline or lash line using a small brush or your fingertips for a defined and intense look.

Note: It’s important to exercise caution when making and using homemade kohl. Make sure to use clean and sterile tools, and discontinue use if you experience any irritation or discomfort. Additionally, be aware that homemade kohl may not have the same quality, safety, and longevity as commercially produced ones.

Remember to store your homemade kohl in a cool and dry place, and replace it every few months to ensure freshness and hygiene.
